I was beginning to wonder if I would ever have the pleasure of writing another “Blake” concert review again, but four years later, here it is! The entire “Brown Family”, as we’ve come to be known by our BS’er family members, went to see Blake on his 33rd Birthday at the Meadowbrook US Cellular Pavilion in Gilford, NH. It was a 7 ½ hour drive, so we headed out early Thursday morning. It started raining on the way there, but even a torrential downpour couldn’t dampen our spirits that day. We were so excited that we were finally on our way to see “our boy” again!
Meadowbrook was by far the best outdoor venue we’ve been to, and thankfully our seats were under cover. It was very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They had security patting everyone down at the gate. I told the girl who searched me that they should have had Blake out there searching the girls. She thought that would be a great idea and that she’d be right in the line-up too, if he was the one doing it. We had great seats, 14th row center section. The stage was really high, so I wouldn’t have wanted to be up much closer.
We went to stand in line for the meet and greets at 8pm. The girls were so flustered they were a wreck, and to be truthful, I wasn’t a whole lot better. Allison was shaking like a leaf and she couldn’t keep her feet still. It was fun watching her. This was our fourth time meeting Blake, but the excitement of it all was no less than the first time we met him in 2002. I don’t know what it is about that boy that gets us ladies so worked up. It’s not like he’s knock-dead gorgeous or anything. Wink, wink! Karen took Blake his Birthday card and Melanie gave him a button that said, “Birthday Boy”. He tried to pin it on his shirt but was having trouble, so he asked her to help him. She was shaking so badly that he said he was afraid he was going to get stabbed. Kevin kept telling Melanie to stick him! Allison took Blake some Whoppers and he asked her how she knew they were his favorite. BS’ers don’t forget these things. Dana, Michael and Christopher met him next, and then it was my turn! As you all know, Blake gives the best hugs, and I’m still smiling from mine. It was so nice to finally get to meet Kevin too.
After our M & Gs, we went back to our seats to watch Craig Morgan’s show. He is one of our favorites and we enjoyed his show a lot, but we were anxious for Blake to take the stage, and take it he did! It didn’t take long for him to have the audience going wild, and what a Birthday party it was! The energy was staggering, and so were a lot of the fans, now that I think of it. Blake’s vocals have always been amazing, but he sure has grown as a performer since our last show, and we were blown away!
He mentioned that it was his Birthday just a FEW times during the show, lol. About halfway through, they wheeled a big square thing that looked like a huge clothes hamper out onto the stage. Tracy popped up out of it wearing a long blonde wig and sang “Happy Birthday” to Blake, while trying to act as feminine as possible. It was hilarious! Then Craig wheeled out a big Birthday cake and hugged Blake. Blake then went over to Tracy and gave him a big smooch! He explained later that the guy he kissed was his drummer and that there was nothing “Richard Simmonsy” going on. I don’t think Blake had a clue they were going to do that, because he looked genuinely surprised. The girls and I screamed so much during the show that we could barely talk by the time we left, and Allison’s voice still hasn’t returned to normal. Blake got Mark to come out and sing near the end of the show and he was very entertaining too, and the crowd loved him. There were four guys behind us (one of whom kept telling Karen he loved her) who hollered “Ol’ Red” every time Blake was about to sing another song, so I’m sure they were happy when he closed the show with that. The show was awesome from start to finish. The only bad thing about a “Blake” show is that it leaves you wanting more! I just hope and pray that we don’t have to wait another four years to see him again.
Great review Mary.
No one can tell a story like you.
