Alabama

I didn't see any threads about Alabama so I had to start one! I have grown up listening to their music and for a long time they were my favorite band. There are very few songs that have come out that I didn't love. I met them one time when they came to Michigan to do an autograph signing in KMart. I was about 15 or 16. We waited in line INSIDE KMart for hours. I was so excited because I really hadn't met anyone famous before and Randy Owen was my all-time favorite singer - pre-Blake of course ;)

When they finally came in and started signing, we had some mean lady behind us who said that I shouldn't be too excited because she has met (insert list of 987879 famous people) and they aren't as nice as you think they are. I made a joke to my friend about asking Randy to kiss me on the cheek for my picture and this lady just went off about how it would never happen, DO NOT ask because he will just embarass you, etc. I was really upset. She was so rude and had me a nervous wreck before we got up there.

When it was our turn to meet them, I started down the table and met all the other members of Alabama first. Randy Owen was sitting at the end of the table so we saw him last. We were supposed to meet them and keep right on going, you couldn't turn around to take pictures of other people. But, my Mother (often doesn't follow rules!) turned around and asked Randy if she could take our picture. Do you know he kissed me on the cheek and I NEVER even asked?? I thought that beotch behind us was going to pass out.

So that's my Alabama experience! I saw them on their final tour and loved every second of it. I have their Christmas albums and have been listening to them for a month. Everytime I hear one of their songs start to play, it's like rewinding back to my childhood and having a few minutes of my past. I LOVE them! Sure would like to see them head out for a reunion tour or something :)

Awe - that's a great story! I am sure Randy felt very honored that you cared that much to meet him! I really am holding out for a reunion tour at some point :)

~Sabrina~

I bet that was really touching though for Randy :)
that's a great story!!!

Jeez, what is it about that Randy Owen? Here's my funny story. I have been a huge Alabama fan for years. I've seen them over 20 times in concert, including their farewell tour. In the 80's, they always came to our area at least once a year, and I went to see them every time-but never got to meet them.

Finally in 2003, I went to my first Fan Fair. I found out that on one of the days, Alabama would be signing at the RCA booth. I was so excited to finally meet them! I was one of the first in line that day, and stood there for HOURS. They arrived, and I went down the line to meet each of them. Mark was first, then Jeff, then Teddy each signed a picture for me. The person in front of me was taking a while with Randy, so I chatted with Teddy for a while. Then it was my turn with Randy. I walked up to him and told him how great it was to finally meet him, that I'd been a fan for SO long, etc. He leaned over and gave me a big hug, and thanked me. I immediately burst into tears-we're talking the ugly cry here. It was so embarrassing. I literally had to go sit down in order to get myself calmed down.

I'd love it if they did a reunion tour someday!

Funny story! I bet that was a kodak moment lol
My oldest son and youngest daughter have always
been huge Alabama fans. During my son's senior year
they lost three students due to accidents of various kinds,
that year at graduation the class chose
Alabama's "Angels Among Us" for their class
song, it was very touching, as they were like a class
of maybe 85 students.

My youngest girl LOVES Alabama, and was fortunate enough
to see them in their farewell tour, she even got to bid on a guitar
signed by all if them at that concert, the guitar went for
$12,000.00 needless to say she didn't get the guitar but it was a fun time
none the less! But she did get to meet them.

She too is waiting for a reunion tour ;)
